Ed Accura, co-founder of the Black Swimming Association, has been interviewed on multiple BBC radio stations about his new documentary Changing the Narrative.

Mr Accura, a client of consumer PR agency Palamedes, released the five-part series across October, Black History Month, with the aim of igniting greater engagement in aquatic activities within Black and Asian communities.

Recent data from Sport England’s 2024 Active Lives survey reveals that nearly 97 per cent of Black adults and 96 per cent of Asian adults do not swim regularly.

Similarly, 82 per cent of Black children and 79 per cent of Asian children in England do not regularly participate in swimming,

Speaking on air, Ed, who is also the maker of the Blacks Can’t Swim series, discussed the reasons behind this low participation and why it vital for stakeholders to now come together to break the cycle of low participation in water activities, ensuring swimming is recognised as both a lifestyle and a vital life skill.
